What is biomesotherapy / biopuncture?

Biomesotherapy is a new therapy consisting of the use of homeopathic products and the stimulation of specific points in the body with a saline solution. Most of these injections are given under the skin or in the muscles. Although these products have been used in Germany (and the rest of the world) for several decades, the specific name biomesotherapy came into being about a decade ago. In many countries it is called biopuncture.

What is it useful for?

Biomesotherapy is useful for all types of conditions. However it is not a miracle treatment and usually lifestyle and treatments are used.

Where people see the most profound results is in the treatment of pain. This non-invasive and non-suppressive treatment strategy sometimes alleviates pain when other modalities have failed. Common reported success have been:

Lower back pain
Neck pain
Frozen shoulder
Knee tenderness
Increased recovery from sports injury
Carpal tunnel syndrome

Biomesotherapy does NOT switch off pain - but rather stimulates the body's response to the cause of the pain - so it is non suppressive and non masking.

Where are these injections given?

Most people - especially those who are apprehensive about injections are surprised how easy and quickly these injections are given. In fact, these injections can not be compared with the usual injections given in conventional medicine. The needles used are very fine and are more like acupuncture needles. Injections are given into or just under the skin; others are given into specific muscle points. Some of these points are trigger points or acupuncture points. Trigger point injections have their origin in the USA and the use of acupuncture points goes back to ancient Chinese medicine. Injections into and around joints are also common. A lot of these injections are given at more than one spot during each session. For example pain in the elbow, the physician will look for several painful spots in the arm muscles, and inject each of them in one session. So in most cases, several little injections are given in a specific zone of the body at each session.

Does it hurt?

With the "Inject -ease" device, there is very little pain felt at all. In fact mostly no discomfort is felt by the patient. Of course this also depends on proper technique of the practitioner.

Does it take long?

Biomesotherapy does not take long at all - after an initial consultation up to 6 - 10 patients per hour may be treated by a naturopath or acupuncturist for follow up treatments of a particular complaint. Thereby reducing time required for effective treatment.
